Bridget am I on the right lines of what you wanted us to try and achieve for our homework? I'm having great fun, but not convinced this is what you wanted to see!

Hi Jane,
Thank you! The one you have taken of the bus going over the bridge is great as the lamppost is in focus and the bus is all fuzzy. Were these taken near Caldecotte Lake?

The night shot settings were F8 20seconds ISO 100 70mm. Taken from my bedroom window, so I didn't even have to get cold....I was really lucky on this one as the four areas of travel that were possible to get in the shot had a car travel while my shutter was open....other times I just got a single trail...and a few times none!

See you Thursday :)

You have some interesting shots there Sara, not quite what we were trying to achieve but as you can see by using a slow shutter speed on a moving subject means you will get motion blur and these interesting results.

Have another try but this time remember to keep your shutter speed high to freeze the movement of the subject and see what results you get.

Hi Faye,
Have to say it was a bit of a struggle, but hubbie helped. I have my photos on Flickr. So, when to Flickr, to the photo (didn't have to downsize it for the web) then clicked on all sizes button, selected medium, copied the location, then went to the blog (do a reply) then click the black button with Img in white and paste the link between the two img tags that are displayed). That is probably as clear as mud in reality, hope the screen shots help. Green circle shows the img button, red circle shows how you have to add the link between the img tags see screen shot

Tonight I tried some shots using the shutter speed as priority, so once I got past the black screen, I managed the attached photos, so instead of getting a blurr I got more of a frozen in time.
Image

Exif Data f5/6 1/25 sec ISO 1600 53mm focal length

This other one is a little dark........and hubbie wasn't a very good shot with the milk drips!!!
Image

Exif Data f5/6 1/60 sec ISO 1600 55mm focal length

Going to have to go outside and try this with some better lighting

By the way Faye, you have to click the preview button before you get to see the Img button for uploading!

Good experiment Sara, if you get a chance to try outside then put your camera on M for Manual and set your shutter to 800. You will need to adjust your aperture and iso to get your meter reading in the middle and then try your coffee shot again. You will see that the liquid will freeze as you shutter will open and close quickly. Then try setting your shutter to 60, once again adjust aperture and iso for correct metering then take another shot, this time the liquid will show movement. This is one of the exercises we do later in the course when we learn about shutter speed.

Many thanks for helping explain how to get images on the forum.

Great waterfall examples Faye, good use of shutter and you can clearly see that by adjusting the shutter speed the different the end result is. Low shutter shows movement and high shutter freezes the movement.

I very much like your first tree shot and the moon really adds to the photograph, good work.
