This weeks homework. Here are some of my favorite pictures i took on holiday in manual (before the course)!

Image

Image
ISO100 F22 1/100. Edited the saturation and entered text

Image

Image
ISO 100 F5 1/640. Edited to make the t-shirt brighter

Image

Image
ISO100 F5.6 1/1000 again edited the saturation to make the sky brighter and the clouds whiter

iso100 f16 1/125 Probably my most favorite natural shot from the holiday, my boy with my neices pink boogie board. so i changed it to black and white for him. Although he was quite comfortable with the pink.

Bridget i have no idea why i chose the manual settings at the time, but looking at the original pictures now i can see what i would like to have done......so some iof it must be sinking in.....albeit slowly!

Great examples Louise, you can really see that with a little editing how it brings the photos to life. Really like the first edited one and glad you got rid of the pink board for your son, looks good in mono.

Here are some before and after Picasa editing shots of some my favourite photos taken over the last couple of months ...

LADYBIRD

I stumbled across this ladybird on a holly bush at Stowe Gardens whilst seeking out opportunities to shoot some specular highlights for last week's homework.

In Picasa I have increased the saturation to make the colours more vibrant, increased the shadows and retouched to remove the white mark and dimple from the leaf and a light reflection from the body of the ladybird.

Iso 400 f/5.6 1/50

ZEBRA

A shot of a zebra at ZSL Whipsnade last month.

In Picasa I used the fill light to brighten the image then increased both the shadows and highlights to give more contrast. Finally I converted the image to black and white and cropped out some of the background to focus on the zebra.

Iso 400 f/5.6 1/500

TAXI ...

This New York taxi photo was taken a couple of weeks before the start of the Shutterbug course so was taken in Shutter Priority mode rather than manual ... it is one of my favourite shots from holiday.

In Picasa I increased the saturation to lift the colours and again increased the shadows and highlights to increase contrast. I finally cropped the image to frame from the traffic lights to the taxi.

Nice work Sam, your edits have really brought your photographs to life. The ladybird edit is great.
