Read up to page 21 of "Understanding Exposure". The exercise is outlined on pages 20 & 21.

In a nutshell.....
Put the camera on 'M' for manual
> select your lowest ISO
> select your aperture of f/8.0
> find the shutter speed to make the in-camera meter be at centre or '0' (+|||0|||- in the viewfinder - canon will be the other way around though)
> take the shot.
> increase ISO
> leave ap at f/8
> find the SS to make the in-camera meter be at centre or '0'
> take the shot
> repeat for each ISO available.

POST: ... pictures for each ISO setting. (We are aiming for correct in-camera exposures here, where your meter is at '0')

Please don't forget to post your thoughts and ideas on each post to help one another improve their photography.

I'm eager this week and had my youngest son pose for me in the garden late this afternoon...as you'll see from the photographs he got rather fed up with me. So here goes:

http://s665.photobucket.com/albums/vv18 ... G_8583.jpg

....oh Bridget, which code did you say to copy to get the pics shown on here?

If you can see the photos - i took each one per your excercise, they don't look much different on the surface, but zoomed in on Picasa you can really see the grain on higher ISO mainly 800 and 1600.

I then went on to fix the ss at 1/100 (twice the focal length - not sure if this was correct??) and the ISO, then select the correct aperture for exposure. i couldn't get the correct aperture for exposure when i set the ISO at 100 and 200. Not sure i was doing this bit right?

Great shots, this one made me laugh.

Image

Of your 3 images the first 2 look perfectly exposed, however the last looks a little under exposed. Try to keep an eye on your meter at all times as only the slightest change in the light will affect the exposure.

If you want to post the image to show here you need to copy the IMG Code.

Seems you understand the concept of the ISO and like you said sometimes you need to zoom into the photo to see the differences.

The second try you had, if you were trying to fix the shutter and ISO then to make the triangle the aperture would be the control you would need to adjust to get the exposure correct. Its again trying to remember the 3 things are interlinked.

however the last looks a little under exposed......oh ok!! i'll have another try later. i know the correct exposure meter kept flickering off the centre, so i may have taken it at the wrong exposure.

For the second try - i think i done what you've said, but i'll try again later while the sun is shining! Thanks Bridget.

Hi Bridget

Here are my photo's for this week! I was really pleased with my camera as it didn't miss a beat, and I got the meter in the middle all the time!

I did copy the IMG code so the photo's come up, however, the exif data didn't, so I've put the album link on the e mail again. Hope you can see the exif. Can you tell us next week how to do this so the exif data comes up please? Thank you, I'm very new to using forums etc!!

All of my photos looking at the effects of ISO on exposure are posted on Flickr ... I took photos from ISO 100-6400 doubling the ISO from one shot to the next.

A selection of the images are shown below ...

Euonymous - ISO 100 f8 1/20

The following two images are zoomed and cropped versions of the original images at ISO 100 and ISO 6400. There is definitely noise evident at ISO 6400 ...

Look spot on Sam and Hannah, although you can only see slight differences in the grain you seem to have understood this weeks tutorial.
